Thank you to everyone who joined us at Crown Point, Mission Bay, on Sunday, April 26, 2026, for a day filled with movement, music, sunshine, and big smiles. Together, we showed up loud and proud for our loved ones with epilepsy, as well as the 1 in 26 people who will develop epilepsy in their lifetime. Your care and commitment once again proved that when San Diego shows up for our epilepsy community, no one faces epilepsy alone.
Hosted in San Diego each Spring by Epilepsy Foundation of San Diego County, Sharon’s Ride.Run.Walk. is an annual outdoor community event that brings our community together to get active, educate, spread awareness and make a difference for the people we love who live with epilepsy. These nationwide events are dedicated to the memory of Sharon Rosenfeld, a nurse and teacher who cared deeply about epilepsy and advocated for helmet safety.
When the average cost of care for a person living with epilepsy in the U.S. is estimated to be as high as $34,000/year (as of 2025), each person who participates and fundraises for Sharon’s Ride.Run.Walk. helps us continue to offer monthly support groups, school nurse trainings, seizure first aid trainings, neurologist referrals and more at no cost to families and individuals in San Diego impacted by epilepsy.
“We are grateful. We are grateful for our family, our friends and our faith which have all helped us on this journey,” shared Kathryn Sievert, EFSDC community member, parent of a child with epilepsy and captain of Team Micah, a group that has consistently participated in Sharon’s Ride.Run.Walk. in San Diego. “Some days have been better than others. Some days Micah still has seizures. But we walk. We walk for awareness and education. We walk because we will always fight. We will always make sure he knows he is more than his diagnosis. He is our superhero!”
Our community’s support in 2026 was essential in helping us surpass our $70,000 fundraising goal for Sharon’s Ride.Run.Walk. to raise over $80,000. Thank you, San Diego, for staying epilepsy strong!
